NSW Budget gives Essential Workers a Pay Cut

Tuesday 21 June 2022

Today's budget shows the NSW Liberal Government don't care about essential workers.

The Government has today locked in a 3% wage cap - which is 2.5% below inflation.

That means essential workers will be on average $2142 worse off this year.

Essential workers have worked throughout the pandemic. We don't deserve to go backwards.

Even if you aren't employed in the public sector, the NSW wage cap affects you too.

The NSW Government is the country's largest employer, and its unfair wage cap pushes down wages for everyone.

Insecure Work

Nearly 30% of people working in essential services are on casual or short-term contracts. This budget does nothing to address this.

With staff shortages and falling wages, the future of the services that we all rely on every day is at risk.
