Robert Potter, ASU National Secretary

Robert was first elected National Secretary of the ASU in March 2020.

Robert has broad industrial relations experience in all three tiers of government, not-for-profit sector and private sector.

He has spent three decades as an industrial advocate, with experience across project management, strategic planning and communications.

Robert was nominated in 2019 and is currently a member director of CareSuper by the ASU and brings to the CareSuper Board extensive corporate governance and leadership skills.  Robert is Chair of the Member and Employer Services Committee at CareSuper.

Additionally, Robert is one of four people to receive the inaugural 2019 Garry Weaven Emerging Trustee Scholarship which included attending the Harvard University Trustee Leadership Forum.  He remains involved in the Initiative for Responsible Investment at the Hauser Institute for Civil Society at the Harvard Kennedy School and member of the Centre for Workers Capital.

  • Certificate in Australian Public Service
  • DGL International, Quantum Factor Senior Leadership Program
  • Finance Education for Investors, Melbourne Business School
  • Graduate of the Trustee Director Course - Australian Institute Superannuation Trustees 

Robert has written various papers, including submissions to State and Federal Government on Water Reform, Australian Building Construction Commission (ABCC), Corporate Avoidance of the Fair Work Act, and as Convenor of the USU New Gen Youth Committee; implemented a State Wide campaign to encourage the use of Apprentices and Trainees in Local Government.
