Union members make plans for #BestNDIS

10 August 2022

50+ delegates from across NSW and ACT came to Sydney to represent their workplaces

Natalie Lang, Secretary of the ASU, spoke about the need for transparency, equity and inclusion of the NDIS workforce and participants.

"When we argue to lift the standards, we lift them for everyone. No corner of our community should be left behind."

We were joined by Minister for the NDIS, Bill Shorten, who spoke about the huge job he had ahead of him to fix the work of the previous government.
He promised to represent disability support workers at the upcoming Skills Summit.

"You are a growth industry. We must get young people into this sector and make it a worthwhile career."

Delegates workshopped what would make the NDIS a better system for participants and workers.

ASU members have a vision for a better NDIS, one where:

  • Workers have access to training to meet the needs of participants and build careers in the sector

  • Portable entitlements provide greater job security and dignity at work in the NDIS

  • Every worker has access to Equal Pay and minimum Award conditions so we have a strong foundation for a quality NDIS

ASU members working in disability support services are united to make the NDIS the best it can be.
