NDIS workers provide invaluable support to over 500,000 people living with a disability. But flaws in the system make it difficult to recruit and retain workers.
We believe we can only achieve the best NDIS when workers are properly valued. That's why Australian Services Union members are working together to win:
✓ Fair pay and working conditions for NDIS workers
✓ Meaningful careers and professional development
✓ Recognition of our skills and expertise
✓ Secure jobs with stable and predictable working hours
✓ Protecting sleepover pay and entitlements
Our fight to improve the NDIS has been ongoing, and so far we have proudly campaigned for and won:
✓ Portable Long Service Leave for eligible NSW workers in the community and disability sector starting from 1 July 2025. Eligible workers can register here.
✓ 3.5% pay rise for workers under the SCHADS Award from 1 July 2025.
✓ Paid domestic leave for 11 million workers.
✓ Equal Pay (2010-2012) which secured pay increases of 23–48% and government funding to address the historic gendered undervaluation of community services workers.

"There needs to be more focus on supporting workers under the NDIS Code. For me, that means better funding for training opportunities and career paths in the sector.”

Did You Know?
You should be paid on Level 1 of the SCHADS Award as a disability support worker. The minimum rate of pay for a DSW is $34.85 per hour for part time or full time workers and $43.23 for casual workers.
Being paid on level 1 on the SCHADS or under the Home Care Award as a disability support worker is a red flag. But we may be able to help.
